ROMULO FRÓES (JAPAN)
OCT 31 9PM
By Caetano Veloso
Live at Casa de Francisca
Filmed by Mariana Person and Gustavo Moura
In continuity with its new live streaming concert project, with no present audience yet, "Till the end, singing", Casa de Francisca presents Romulo Froes through Marina Person and Gustavo Moura’s filmmaking perspective, cinematographic and affective curatorship by Laís Bodanzky, and project conception and artistic direction by Rubens Amatto.
Romulo Fróes is openly influenced by the album "Transa". At first, related to samba, the singer and composer headed for rock from his third album onwards, a double album named "No Chão Sem o Chão". Along this path, he seeked in Brazilian music a shortcut to his own language in a a guitar-bass-drums shape, and the classic album by Caetano Veloso has imposed itself as one of his main references. When he first presented this tribute, the year Caetano celebrated 40 years from its release, Romulo would never wonder about a contribution of "Transa" musical director, another great reference to him, Jards Macalé, who would then become a partner and producer of one of his praised albuns, "Besta Fera". To get along in this rereading more than personal of this Brazilian music classic, Romulo Fróes is very well accompanied by great names of the current Brazilian music: Guilherme Held on the electric guitar, Marcelo Cabral on contrabass, Richard Ribeiro on the drums, Rodrigo Campos on cavaquinho and Thiago França on the wind instruments.
Marina Person is director, presenter and actor. In 2015, she released her first fiction feature film, "California" (Rio Festival, São Paulo International Film Festival, Rotterdam, Tribeca, Krakow, Torino, Huelva and Malmö). She’s been currently ending the documentary series "Breaking the Silence" from HBO and "Até o Primeiro Disco" from CineBrasil TV. She's also been producing the feature film "Ela e Eu", co-produced by Mira Filmes with FOX Brazil and Warner Bros Brazil.
Gustavo Moura is director, screenwriter and producer, co-founder of Mira Filmes. He has directed "Cildo" (2010, documentary), "Jokesters" (2015, documentary), "Coming Back Home" (2016, fiction) and "Ela e Eu" (to be released in 2020, fiction). His films have been exhibited in film festivals such as Rotterdam, Tribeca, Sao Paulo Film Festival and Rio Film Festival.
Camera and photography team will be directed by Thaís Taverna, who will also count on professionals from DAFBE (Collective of Women and Transgender People from Photography and Cinema Department).
